Persatuan Chopin Malaysia was officially registered as a non-profit organisation on 23rd September 2002. The Malaysian chapter is part of an international network of Chopin Societies in more than 60 countries which come under the umbrella of the International Federation of Chopin Societies (IFCS). The Patron of the IFCS is Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands and its headquarters is in Vienna.
 

Our History

Persatuan Chopin Malaysia, a non-profit organization, was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies of Malaysia on September 2, 2002. The Persatuan Chopin Malaysia is abided by the law and functions according to the Constitution of the Society. It forms part of the international network of Chopin Societies in more than sixty countries around the world. In turn, these networks are controlled by the International Federation of Chopin Societies (IFCS), under the patronage of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

The Persatuan Chopin Malaysia was initiated by Dr. Zygmut Langer, former Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and Professor Snezana Panovska, an innovative piano professor and a frontier in upbringing talented young pianists. The Society carries the mission of promoting the Polish culture to Malaysians and enhancing the development of cultural cooperation between Poland and Malaysia. The Society also stated its objectives clearly in its Constitution: (a) to popularize the work of Fryderyk Chopin among Malaysians; (b) to support promising and talented young Malaysians in fulfilling their career aspirations; (c) to provide a platform for intercultural and international exchanges through music-related activities; (d)to encourage collaborative efforts in developing appreciation of classical as well as other kinds of music in Malaysia.

At the early stage of the formation of the Persatuan Chopin Malaysia, an Organizing Committee was formed on February 7, 2002 to be responsible for drafting the Constitution of the Society and preparing other necessary documents to be submitted to the Registrar of Societies of Malaysia. The Organizing Committee consisted of Datin Halimah Mohd. Said, Dr. Zygmut Langer, Ms. Nithila Diana Mills, Prof. Snezana Panovska, Prof. Dato’ Ruslan Khalid, Datin Viera Sarina Shah, Tunku Datuk Zahiah Tunku Sulong and Puan Zainab Abdul Majid. On July 1, 2002, the Organizing Committee was dissolved and replaced by the Pro Tem Board, chaired by Dato’ Ruslan Khalid. The Pro Tem Board worked their way through until the Persatuan Chopin Malaysia was registered officially. Persatuan Chopin Malaysia held its first annual General Meeting at the Shah’s Village Hotel on December 20, 2003. Following this meeting, the Pro Tem Committee stepped down from their positions to enable a properly constituted committee to be elected.
